Birthday Parties

Let TLC host your child’s birthday party at the Chandler Mill Nature Preserve! 

Scheduling

  • Birthday parties must be reserved no less than two weeks in advance.

  • Birthday parties may be scheduled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • Dates and times are flexible and are dependent on the season and TLC’s education schedule.

  • Contact Kriss Given to request a reservation.

Masks are required. 

Price

  • TLC members: $200 for up to 12 children

  • Non-members: $250 for up to 12 children

  • $10 per extra child

  • No charge for adult chaperone(s)

 

*Please note: we have a maximum capacity of 20 guests total due to fire safety regulations in our Interpretive Nature Center.
 

  • Optional add-ons:

    • Goody bags: $5 each

      • Includes magnifier, bug box, seeds, biodegradable planting pot, honey stick, or similar items that may vary based on season)

    • Party supply rental: $35

      • Includes reusable plates, cups, napkins, utensils, and tablecloths, as well as lemonade)

Time

  • Birthday parties are two hours:

    • 1 hour for the nature program

    • 1 hour for food, gifts, or any other activities you planned

  • You will also have an additional 30 minutes for set-up and 30 minutes for clean-up.
     

Deposits & Cancellations

  • A $100 deposit is due within two weeks of your request for a party.

  • There are no refunds for canceled parties, but parties can be rescheduled in the case of dangerous weather (snowstorms, extremely high winds) at TLC’s discretion.
     

Weather & What to Wear

  • Parties are held rain or shine. Bring boots and rain gear! Parties can be moved indoors or rescheduled in the case of severe weather conditions (at TLC’s discretion).

  • The nature program will be held outdoors. Dress appropriately for the weather, including sturdy shoes or boots.
     

Your 3-hour reservation includes

  • Use of the Interpretive Nature Center for indoor party space at TLC’s Chandler Mill Nature Preserve headquarters

  • A table and chairs for your guests (indoor table or outdoor picnic tables) plus additional table space for food or gifts

  • Trash & recycling bins

  • 30 minutes for set-up and 30 minutes for clean-up

  • A 1-hour nature program led by a qualified TLC naturalist

  • 1 hour for your own activities

  • TLC staff member on duty to ensure everything runs smoothly
     

Additional Information

  • You should bring all paper goods unless you plan to rent the supply package of reusable party goods.

  • You are welcome to bring food and drinks for your guests. Catering/delivery may be available from local restaurants in Kennett Square. Please notify us if you are getting food delivered.

  • You and other adult guests are responsible for the supervision of children. Positive and polite behavior is expected.
     

Birthday Party Themes

Bonkers for Bugs
Ages: 4-10. Availability: April – October

Come to TLC and explore a variety of habitats to discover bugs! Get up close and personal with bugs to learn about the roles they play in the environment. Children will make discoveries through log rolling, stream exploration, meadow searching, and imaginative play.
 

Fabulous Feathered Friends
Ages: 6-10. Availability: Year-Round

Birds are incredible creatures! Take a closer look at bird beaks, bird feet, feathers, and eggs to learn about our local birds! Go on a bird walk to identify some native species, and come back to the “lab” to dissect an owl pellet! *Please note: there is an additional fee of $25 for this party for owl pellets.
 

Nature Detectives
Ages 4-8. Availability: Year-Round

Do you have what it takes to be a nature detective? Search for the preserve for signs of wildlife and get in touch with nature! You might find animal bones, fur, feathers, special plants, and more. Build your naturalist skills through this fun scavenger hunt.
 

Wild Child
Ages 4-10. Availability: Year-Round, best during warm weather.

This party theme is all about nature-based play! Use all your senses to explore the outdoors through nature-inspired games and activities.
 

Winter Wildlife
Ages 5-10. Availability: November – February

How does our local wildlife survive the harsh winter season? This animal-focused party where you will learn about adaptations through role-play, play a game to discover traces of wildlife and take a discovery walk to see animals in action as they work to make it through this challenging season. 
 

Wonderful Wetlands

Ages 4-10. Availability: April – October

Turn rocks, dig in stream bottoms, search for crayfish, salamanders, frogs, and bugs, build dams and streamside shelters – the possibilities are endless! Spend your party exploring streams and wetlands to learn about the creatures who call these places home.
